Policies & Rules

Games

All games will be played at Northern Gold Coast Netball Association courts at Sports Drive, Runaway Bay, Gold Coast, Qld.

RULES: As per the playing rules of the IFNA/Netball Australia “Rules of Netball 2020”.

Players

Player Registration: Up to twelve (12) players are allowed per team and registration of players will be accepted
up to and including that team’s first match. A player may only be registered to play in one team, with
the exception of those participating in the Walking Division.

  • Teams that play non-registered players will forfeit any points earned from that game. The opposing
    team shall be awarded the game with a win 50-0.
  • A player must participate in a minimum of two games to be eligible to play in the final series.


Players in restricted age groups shall be determined according to the age of the player as at 31st December in the year of the Championships. Boys are permitted to play in the 13 and Under competition, so long as they comply with the age restriction. Only 1 boy may be named in each team.

Players are permitted to compete in a section or age group (age permitting) higher than that in which she/he is nominated, for only their nominated association, provided that on the third occasion in which she/he plays in the higher section or age group, she/he becomes part of that section and can no longer represent her/his team in the section in which she/he was nominated.

  • The highest ranked section is Open Ladies followed in succession by Men, Open Mixed, Masters, Walking, 21 and Under, 17 and Under, 15 and Under and 13 and Under.
  • Male and female players competing in the Open Ladies, Men and Mixed Sections are eligible to play in only one section.

Mixed Competition

Maximum of

  • * (4) females and three (3) males with
  • * one (1) male in goal shooter or goal attack:
  • * one (1) male in wing attack or centre or wing defence:
  • * one (1) male in goal defence or goal keeper.

 

If there are three (3) males to play,

  • * they must take their positions on court.

 

If only two (2) males are available to take the court,

  • * can play in any two (2) areas.

 

Maximum of five (5) females to take the court at any time.

In the event that only one (1) male takes the court

  • * then he can take any position.

Walking Netball Competition

  • The Walking Netball competition is for women aged 40 years and above
  • A player must never have both feet off the ground at once….No jumping or running
  • When a player receives the ball, they can take 1-2 steps while in possession before they must pass or shoot
  • A player may keep possession of the ball for up to 4 seconds before they must pass or shoot
  • When defending, a player MUST be 4 feet (1.2m) away from the player with the ball.
  • Games will consist of 4 x 15 minute quarters, with breaks of 2 minutes, 5 minutes and 2 minutes.
  • Substitutions may be made at intervals or during play. There is no limit to the number that can be made during game.

Fill Ins

Players shall not be permitted to interchange with other teams nominated by their Association in the same section or age group, except with the Board’s permission.

Games Played

A minimum of six (6) games shall be played in the minor round.

Cancellation of Games

The Carnival Referee is the only person who can cancel a game for any reason; otherwise, the rules of forfeiture apply.

Points allocation

Points allocation

2 points equals win | 1 point equals draw.

Forfeited Matches: The team receiving the forfeit will be allocated two (2) points for the win and a 50 to 0 score will be recorded.

Finals Series

In each Section, at the end of the minor round, the four teams which have the most points shall compete in the final series. If two (2) or more teams in a section have the same number of points, their positions shall be determined by calculating their percentages with the following formula:

Total of goals scored by the team       x 100
Total of goals scored by the team and by its opponents

 

Final Series to be held as:

  • First Semi-Final 1           v 4
  • Second Semi-Final 2    v 3
  • Grand Final                     Winner of First Semi-Final v Winner of Second Semi Final

 

If there are only two (2) teams in a section – both teams go straight to Grand Final

If there are only three (3) teams in a section – no semi-final will be played –

  • 1 – straight to the Grand Final
  • 2 v 3 – Second Semi Final
  • Grand Final – 1 v winner of Second Semi Fina

 

If any team forfeits in the Final Series, then that team no longer takes part in the Final Series, except in extenuating circumstances and with the Board’s permission.

Player of the Tournament (Best and Fairest) in each Section

Is selected by the umpires. At the conclusion of each game, both umpires are required to select 1st, 2nd and 3rd preferences from each match and place both slips in a sealed envelope. These envelopes will be with the score sheet and must be placed in the box provided upon completion.

Scoring and Timing

Scoring and Timekeeping: The first named team is the official scorer, and the second named team is the timekeeper/caller and checkscorer unless provided by the Host Association. Scorer, timekeeper/caller and checkscorer shall be 16 years and over.

Match Balls

Each Team is to provide their own match ball.

First Aid

Each team is to provide their own first aid.

Meetings

Meetings will be held as set out in the Programme of Events.

Umpires

  • Umpires are required to commence matches at the time programmed.
  • Umpires nominating for the Championships should have a National C Badge or be a suitably qualified umpire.
  • Umpires must make themselves available for Finals/Meetings.

Tribunals

A Tribunal Panel shall be convened by the Board to deal with any alleged breaches of these rules and any breaches of conduct. The Panel has the right to impose appropriate disciplinary action.

Uniforms

  • All team players must wear the same colour and/or designed uniform.
  • 25. Gloves and bike pants are not permitted except on presentation of a medical certificate and with the permission
    of the Board.

Selections

  • Each registered player must have their programmed number on each calf for selection purposes.

Rolling Substitutions

Teams can now make substitutions during play, as well as during stoppages and intervals. There is no limit to the number of substitutions that can be made, and multiple substitutions can be made at any time. Play will not be held for substitutions and must take place through the designated substitutions zone in front of the team bench area. For a substitution during play, the substitute must tag hands with the player leaving the court before entering the field of play. Players must observe the offside rules as they enter/exit the court and make sure they do not interfere with the umpire’s movement during the substitution. If there is an infringement during a substitution, a free pass will be given where the ball is when the interference or offside entry/exit occours.
