“Combination Drill”
(7 passes and change position)

  • Player A starts with the ball
  • Player A makes a shoulder pass (1); to player B
  • Player B makes a shoulder pass (2) to the moving player A
  • Player A makes a chest pass (3) to player C driving to the left
  • Player A cuts behind player C, who makes a shoulder pass (4) back to player B
  • Player C drives back to the original position to take a chest pass (5) from player B
  • Player C makes a lob pass (6) to A who then makes a shoulder pass (7) to D (next in line)
  • Without stopping the drill player A takes up position at B player B takes up position C and player C returns to the end of the line at E.

Coaching Points

  • Pass to space ahead of a player on the move
  • Drive to a vacant space to receive a pass
  • Variety of passes, timing, footwork, agility skills
  • Speed and accuracy

To increase the difficulty:

  • Allow player A to move either left or right after the first pass

“Left and Right”

  • Player A starts with the ball
  • Player A makes a pass (1) to player C on a straight fast lead.
  • Player C catches the ball, pivots and makes a pass (2) back to player A.
  • Player A makes a pass (3) to player D at the head of the line and moves to the end of the line.
  • Player C takes the place of player A.
  • Player D makes a pass (4) to player B and the sequence repeats on the other side.

Coaching Points

  • Jump, catch, land balanced, pivot and pass.
  • Strong passes.
  • Pass to space.
  • Concentration
  • Ball handling and footwork.
  • Variety of passes.

To increase the difficulty:

  • Use two balls – player A starts with player C, quickly followed by players B and D.

“Cut, Pass and Shoot”

  • Player A starts with the ball
  • Player A makes a shoulder pass (1) to player B and sprints to cut around B and into the circle.
  • Player C makes a chest pass (2) across the circle to player C.
  • Player C makes a chest pass (3) to player A cutting into the circle close to the goal post.
  • Player A catches the ball, balances and shoots (4) for goal.
  • Player B comes into the circle after pass 3 and takes the rebound after the shot for goal.
  • Player B makes a shoulder pass (5) back to player D, who is now forst in line, and sprints to the end of the line.
  • Player A moves into position C.
  • Player C moves to position B and the sequence is repeated.

Coaching Points

  • Strong, accurate passing.
  • Shooting.
  • Rebounding.
  • Quick thinking.
  • Pass to space.

Progression:

  • Player B defends the shot for goal by A – both try for the rebound.
  • Change from right side to left.
  • Use a bounce pass for pass 2.

“QuickSwitch”

  • Player A starts with the ball
  • Player A makes a pass (1) to player C outside the goal circle.
  • Player C makes a pass (2) to player B leading at 45 degrees.
  • Player C moves off towards the cone. Player A takes position at C
  • Player B makes a pass (3) to player A and moves to the edge of the circle.
  • Player A makes a pass (4) to player B.
  • Player B makes a pass (5) to leading player C.
  • Player C catches the ball, balances, takes a shot for goal (6), rebounds and makes a pass(7) to player D, who is now first in line.
  • Player C returns to position E and player B to position F.
  • Player D starts the next sequence.

Coaching Points

To increase difficulty;

  • change from right side to left
  • Player B to follow in after pass 5 and contest the rebound.

“Full Court Shuttle”

  • Player A and player B start at the same time, both with a ball, both pass to the right.
  • Player A makes a pass (1) to player S1 and drives in a straight line down the court.
  • Player S1 makes a pass (2) back to player A on the run, A passes (3) back to S1, S1 passes (4) to A, A passes (5) to Player D, Player A moves to the end of the line at E.
  • Player D new passes to the left to S1 and repeats the passes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 back to the other end.
  • Player B makes a pass (3) to player A and moves to the edge of the circle.
  • NOTE:Both sides work at the same time. Change shuttle positions after six shuttles
